The American Dream

There’s a scene in the film, “Dave,” where the President, I mean the guy pretending to be the President, whose name is “Dave (played by Kevin Kline but Costner would have been better),” asks the real Vice President (played by Ben Kingsley) how he got started. He says to Dave:

Vice-President Nance

Vice-President Nance

“I was a shoe salesman. Not very happy about it. One day, my wife says to me, “why don’t you try running for office? You know, you talk about it all the time. Why don’t you just go do it?”

For at least three years, probably more, I have been talking about the great American Dream for myself, that is, to be my own boss and run my own business. And now that the proper opportunity has come along, I panicked and thought that I should do something else, anything else, until my wonderful wife reminded me that if I don’t take this chance, it may never come along again. Then I’ll spend the rest of my life wondering what might have been and whether or not I should have taken a chance and given it a shot.

So, I wasn’t very happy about they way I was doing what I was doing, and I really don’t want to go back to doing it the same way, so I spent my savings to buy the equipment, rearranged my whole house to make a studio, had Groger build me a Super Computer (the Groger-9000) and even bought (used) office furniture. I bought a new telephones and in-line patches to have live phones on streaming shows and podcasts.

My plan is to launch my own Internet Based Talk Radio site, featuring on-demand content and eventually live streaming shows. The basic idea is to have voices that aren’t just traditional Conservative Talk Radio. The goal is to have a variety of voices that you don’t hear of traditional AM Radio, from politics and issues, to religion to sports to technology, history, books, legal topics, entertainment, culture, humor. You name it, it will have a place here.

Well, except for pure porn.

Then again, we may need to monetize things rather quickly and there’s no FCC and we can put warning labels on it. So we’ll have to wait and see.

At any rate, none of this could even begin to happen without Cami and her support and frankly, her encouragement. So here I go, scared to death and excited as all get out.

On to the American Dream!
